FIRST VICE | PAUL MCNAMARA

Comrade Legionnaires,

We are getting close to the next Legion election season.  As someone who has run for office both within the American Legion system as well as other clubs and government, I know most of you think the way I used to think.  That is - I’m not qualified, I don’t have the time, No one will vote for me etc. Well, I am writing today to push back on that mentality.  You are qualified and you should consider running.  And not just for the Post offices but for other offices as well.  I can assure you; your ideas are just as valid as any of our elected officials. Now I will say that I think we have a good team running the Post but we do have some open billets coming up, so that comment is more for elected office outside the Legion.

You may ask me why I think that way.  Well, most elected offices require common sense, one doesn’t need a doctorate in public policy.  And there is one thing that you bring to the table that most elected officials don’t, you are a veteran.  You learned at an early age that service to an ideal is more important than self or partisan rhetoric.  So don’t count yourself out.  Our country needs more veterans involved running the “railroad.”  We need men and women of character and values.  Think about it.

See you at the Post.
